Meet ReSew: Practices of support and solidarity with queer and feminist movements during war

With Resew (Ukraine) and Moussa Mchangama

Meet the Ukrainian Cooperative ReSew and learn about the practices of support and solidarity with queer and feminist movements during war.

ReSew - created in Kyiv - is a queer-feminist sewing cooperative focusing on intersectional queer feminism, environmental activism and economic justice. ReSew conducts workshops for LGBTQI+ and feminist communities and makes clothes accessible for trans* and non-binary people and does repairs and upcycling of clothes and textiles.

At the beginning of war, the cooperative was transformed into a shelter and responded to the urgent needs of peoples’ requests for food, water and relocation, sewing some textile items for the territory defense and anti-authoritarian warriors. Later, the founders of ReSew moved abroad, and our guests, Masha (they/them) and Ton (they/them), are now located in Helsinki.

The conversation will be moderated by Moussa Mchangama.

About: Ton Melnyk (b. Kyiv, Ukraine) and Masha Ravlyk (b. Volzhsky, Russia) are active participants in Resew, queer feminist activists, grassroots organizers and artists who work both as a duet and individually, They use textiles and clothes, theatrical and performative practices, street art and video as media. Their works have connection to social justice, anti-war, ecology and queer community subculture.
